REPEAT SLEEP STUDY

 

Sometimes it’s necessary to repeat a sleep study. Your doctor may suggest  it for the following reasons:

 

1.Changes in Your Weight

If a sleep study was performed several years ago and if you have gained or lost  10 to 20 % weight, it may be a reason to repeat a study. Weight gain will often worsen sleep apnea, while losing weight  might improve or even fully alleviate the condition.

 

2.New symptoms

If you have new symptoms that were not present at the time of your initial study. For example, if you now have restless legs syndrome . Abnormal sleep behaviour such as REM behaviour disorder may develop later in life.

 

3.Change in general health

Heart failure, stroke, or the introduction of narcotic medications  can be associated with central sleep apnea. If you have had any of these , you should undergo a repeat sleep study.
