POLYSOMNOGRAPHY (PSG)

This test is generally regarded a gold standard for the diagnosis of sleep disorders.

 

PROCEDURE :

Polysomnography recording is usually done at home. The test is performed on two nights. On the first night, a Diagnostic PSG is done. Electrodes are applied by a qualified technologist and the data recorded is analyzed by specialist doctors to determine whether or not you have a sleep disorder.

If an abnormality is detected, a Titration study is carried out another night . 

FAQ

A:- 1. Your hair should be clean and dry. Do not apply oil or gel.
2. Avoid napping during the day of your study.
3. Have your usual dinner.
4. Avoid alcohol, caffeine and smoking in the afternoon and evening before your study.
5. Remove nail polish. 

A:- No. The test is non-invasive and not painful. Electrodes are attached over your scalp using a paste. Belts are applied around your chest and abdomen however, they are not painful. You will get used to them in a few minutes.

Yes. The technician will show you how to unhook one or two main cable connections. You can then walk to the bathroom.

A:-No. Sleeping on the stomach is not recommended during the test. You can sleep on your back or on your side as this help us analyse your sleep data in variable sleeping positions.
